Chiefs and Church

We got back late last night (2:00AM) from our game in Kansas City. Thank goodness for comfortable seats on Delta Airlines! Even though the preseason doesn't count toward the post-season, it still feels good to get a win!

Kansas City was a lot of fun. John Carlson, Matt Hasselbeck, and I toured the WWI museum. It was right across the street from our hotel. I highly recommend the tour if you're ever in KC. My great-grandfather, Dwight Terrill, served in WWI, so it was cool to step back in time to see things as he might have seen them. The collection of weapons, tanks, and uniforms was extensive. Trench warfare is no joke.

I spent most of today catching up on sleep and letting my body heal after a late flight home. We finally got out of the house just in time for church at Eastlake. It's a great church if you're looking for one or just want a safe place to learn what Christianity is all about. Today's sermon was a great one. Gary Thompson was the guest speaker and his message was that God knows, "It's not easy to be me". He talked about how life is hard for all of us and there are things that make it difficult for each and everyone of us to just survive the day. He encouraged us to encourage others and to turn to God when we need someone who understands.

Interesting story about how we found Eastlake: It was my first year in the league (2004) and Rachel and I had been praying for God to help us grow toward him. We were both raised in Christian homes but neither of us had attended church during college. So, within about a week's time, both Matt Hasselbeck and Grant Wistrom invited us to go to church with them. If you know anything about Matt and Grant, you know that they're very different guys. So, when I heard that the church each of them had invited me to was the same church, I knew I had to check it out. We went one time and we were hooked.

Short week this week. We play the Raiders on Thursday night in the final preseason game. Practices and meetings get crammed together during the shortened weeks and players have to find a way to get their bodies recovered and ready for the game even faster. We're hoping for a packed house and A LOT of NOISE!

Hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable weekend!

TODAY'S TOUCHDOWN: Journey woke up at 5:45 this morning for some reason after I had gone to bed at 3:00AM. Even though I'd said I would get up if Journey needed someone, Rachel knew how tired I was and went in there with her while I slept. Not much of a moment, but the sleep sure felt good. Rachel is my MVP.

  1. Eastlake is a great place for sure! "A church for the rest of us" every Sunday I hear exactly what I needed to hear!

  2. I will be there Thursday! Gotta get my voice in tune for the regular season....

  3. Loving the blog man keep up the good work! Today's touchdown, got my Lofa Tatupu jersey to wear to my fantasy football draft party next weekend. I would definitely sport the 93 but unfortunately I didn't see any for sale. Awesome job against the Chiefs, looking forward to the game this Thursday!!!
